Yup! It snowed!

First lake effect of the season arrives in WNY

November 10, 2017 - 5:19 am

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - By traditional Western New York Standards, the first lake effect snow event of the season isn't packing much of a punch.  Some narrow meandering bands of lake effect snow were enough to turn roadways and yards white overnight across much of the region, mainly south of Buffalo.

National Weather Service meoteorologist John Hitchcock tells WBEN any of the lake effect snow should spare the Buffalo metro are and the morning commute should be pretty easy to take.  Hitchcock warns of the potential for areas of 'black ice', particularly on bridges and elevated sections of highway.

The big story, says Hitchcock, is the cold.  Temperatures will dip to the teens in spots overnight into Saturday but the weather is expected to moderate closer to seasonal expectations by Sunday.
