Yes, you’ll be able to find a Coliseum-size variety of Italian menu items and cultural activities this weekend in a new location.  After a couple of years on the Outer Harbor, the Galbani Italian Heritage Festival is returning to its roots. Niagara Square and Delaware Avenue, up to Huron Street, in downtown Buffalo, will be transformed into a taste of Italy for the next two days.

Supported by prominent local eatery owners such as Russell Salvatore, Dennis DiPaolo, Lou Billittier and Mark Sciortino, the emphasis will be on authentic Italian cuisine from a wide variety of restaurants.

Be on the prowl for delicious specialty foods you might find on your nana’s table:

Cardoon & Eggs, Stuffed Artichokes, Bracciole, Gnocchi, Tripe, Pastas, Meatballs, Italian Sausage, Pizza, Arancini Rice Balls, Italian Beef, Old Fashioned Torrone Candy, Cannoli’s, Cuccidati Cookies, and much more.

Want to work off some of that deliciousness? Try some grape-stomping, dance the Tarantella, view the heritage exhibits, watch the cheese building contest, or take the kids for face-painting.

Live music will be a highlight for both days and Saturday’s festivities will be capped off with a fireworks display and music display provided by Salvatore. An Italian mass at St. Anthony’s of Padua starting at 11 Sunday morning is followed by a procession to the Festival.

Hours: Saturday, July 20th, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Sunday, July 21st, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

See you Sunday. Mangia!
