Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) The puck drops next Thursday, June 22nd for The 11 Day Power Play.  40 players taking shifts and playing one continuous hockey game until July 3rd.

"Two teams of 20 players, playing in shifts" said organizer Mike Lesakowski.  "It will be 4 and a half hour shifts on the ice with 9 hour breaks".  All players will be "living" at Harborcenter the entire time.

Lesakowski says physically it's one thing, but mentally is another.  "Five or six days in when you're playing in the middle of the night, and no one is around, is going to be the tough part".

The 11 Day Power Play is a benefit for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.  "Our goal is a million dollars and we are 80% there".  Lesakowski is hoping to not only meet the goal, but exceed it.  His wife Amy is a cancer survivor.

Opening ceremonies are set for Thursday at 8:30pm.

Here's how you can help.  Stop by Harborcenter and buy a 50/50 raffle ticket or a t-shirt , hat or jewelry.  There will be live music and happy hours during the games.  Or donate here:

Some logistics:  Most of the guys have 2 pair of everything according to Lesakowski.  Extreme Discount Mattress donated 40 beds and locker rooms at Harbor Center will be turned into dorm rooms.

If they need an extra defenseman, maybe they could call on new Sabres coach Phil Housley?

Here's the entire interview with Mike and Amy Lesakowski:
