Wintry blast to impact Western New York midweek

Winter Weather Advisory posted for Buffalo area

Categories:

(WBEN) Western New York won't escape a snowy blast of winter in the next several days. A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the Buffalo metro area while a Winter Storm Warning is posted for portions of the southern tier Wednesday into Thursday.

A storm passing southeast of the region will bring widespread accumulating snow late Tuesday night into Wednesday evening in Erie and Niagara Counties

"Heavier snow fall amounts will be further east of Buffalo, probably closer toward Central New York  and off toward the capitol region, but closer to Buffalo we are looking at close to five inches," says Shawn Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Heaviest snow is likely just to the east but a shift in the storm track could bring potentially significant snow into areas around Buffalo, Smith says.

In Wyoming , Cattaraugus and Allegany County, snow accumulations of 6 to 10   inches are possible from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night, as part of a winter storm watch that stretches from Western New York through the entire state.  READ WATCHES/ADVISORIES BELOW
