Winter Weather Has Arrived in WNY

Greatest accumulations will be in southtowns and Southern Tier

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The winter weather has arrived in Western New York.

After a mild Wednesday morning, snowfall was seen in various parts of WNY.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY FOR NORTHERN ERIE & GENESEE COUNTIES

  • Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected in the most persistent lake snows. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. Lake effect snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.

LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM EST FRIDAY FOR WYOMING, CHAUTAUQUA, CATTARAUGUS, AND SOUTHERN ERIE COUNTIES

  •  Heavy lake effect snow expected. Travel will become very difficult, including during the evening commute on Thursday. Total snow accumulations of  9 to 18 inches are expected in the most persistent lake snows. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Heavy snow could fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.
