DISCLAIMER: I'm just a guy who likes wings and happens to work at WBEN. I highly encourage you to support all local businesses in Western New York and come to your own conclusions about these wing joints.

I started this project for two reasons. The first? My love for chicken wings. The second? A desire to try something new. I've already been to some of the places on the wing trail but my goal with this project is to rate the top-12 chicken wing joints.

When I order the wings, I'll get one order of "medium" wings and another order of the "specialty" wing (if applicable). If the place has a local beer, I'll grab that.

One bite of each wing and a reaction. A perfect ten will send me into a state of euphoria. A one will make me puke.

Glen Park Tavern | 5507 Main Street, Williamsville

Interesting Story: I visited my doctor the day after I did last week's wing review for my yearly checkup. My blood pressure, pulse, and all that jazz was fine, but the scale didn't lie and I've gained five pounds. Technically, my BMI is over 30, meaning I'm obese. So if you see me, please feel free to bring it up. Also, if you plan to binge eat wings for 12 straight weeks, you should probably talk to a doctor first.

Glen Park Tavern is right along that busy stretch of Main Street in Williamsville. I've driven by it dozens of times for work but never stopped here. This is a place I've been looking forward to coming to for a while because of the "fresh" experience. Despite Main Street being painfully slow at times because of construction and volume of traffic, once you get to Glen Park Tavern, you can park in the lot adjacent to the restaurant.

I almost felt out of place at Glen Park Tavern. It will remind of you the 80's show "Cheers" with that country-club type atmosphere with brick walls, hardwood flooring, and a good chunk of the people who were there when I visited were all wearing golf shirts and shorts. Me? I wore a professional wrestling tee and jeans (at least I had shoes)

It's not a big restaurant. As you walk in on the Main Street entrance, you're greeted by a bar along the wall on the left and about 15-20 tables throughout the restaurant. Glen Park Tavern has a carving station in the back, which I haven't seen at any of the other wing joints. No outdoor seating but they keep the AC going during the summer. Very comfortable.

Their beer menu is a good blend of the mainstream beers and other local drinks. I went with the Allegany 4 Mile IPA and tried some of the Aloha Traveler Pineapple Shandy. I regret not getting a flight of beers, though. If beer isn't your fancy, they have about four pages worth of different mix drinks.

Medium Wing: The medium tavern wings had a crisp. Average-to-above average sized wing. Not saucy or spicy. It's a great "play-it-safe" chicken wing. (8 wings, $13.25/18 wings, $19,95)

Citrus Chipotle: These are a must-have wing in Western New York. It's a barbecue with a slight citrus taste to it with good size. The best part about this wing is that it's grilled. There's something about throwing the wings on a grill versus deep-frying it that just makes it taste better. Easily a top-five chicken wing I've had around WNY. (8 wings, $13.25/18 wings, $19,95)

I loved Glen Park Tavern and totally recommend it but don't feel it's fair to give it a review because they are a sponsor of one of our sister stations, Alternative Buffalo. However, if I did give it, it would be in the top-tier on this list. Visit them and say hello to the owners, Chris and Ellie.

Oh! and try their beef on weck. It's one of the best in Buffalo.
