Wind Advisory Tuesday Afternoon After Heavy Thunderstorms Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for almost all of Western New York from 2 pm Tuesday through 11 that night.  (Read the entire advisory below) 

The high winds come one day after severe thunderstorms pelted the region late Monday afternoon,  As of Tuesday morning, National Grid reported approx 8,000 customers without power and NYSEG another 600.

THE WIND ADVISORY:  

Niagara-Orleans-Monroe-Northern Erie-Genesee-Wyoming-Chautauqua-
Cattaraugus-Southern Erie-
Including the cities of Niagara Falls, Medina, Rochester,
Buffalo, Batavia, Warsaw, Jamestown, Olean, Orchard Park,
and Springville

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 PM EDT
THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 11 PM
EDT this evening.

* LOCATIONS...Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming,
Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties.

* TIMING...From early this afternoon through late this evening.

* WINDS...Southwest 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* IMPACTS...Winds of this magnitude may bring down a few tree
limbs and power lines...causing localized power outages.
Travel will also become difficult for high profile vehicles.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio
