What's the Hold-Up in the search for a new Sabres GM?

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It all makes sense to AP Sports reporter John Wawrow. "Either it's a request the Penguins made to the Sabres, or the NHL made to both parties not to announce this and distract from the high profile series between Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin".

Game 6 of the NHL playoff series is Monday night.  Game 7, if needed, is Wednesday night.  Jason Botterill, Assistant GM of the Penguins, is the favorite and Wawrow would not be surprised if he's the Pegula's pick.

Wawrow said there are also indications that Penguins Assistant Coach Rick Tocchet might be a candidate for Sabres head coach.

Is it possible both vacancies would be filled during the same announcement?  "I don't think so" said Wawrow.  "They can't hire Tocchet if the Penguins advance because he is still employed as an assistant coach.

There is one other sign that the Sabres General Manager search is over.  The Pegulas are not interviewing any more candidates for the Sabres GM position and have moved their attention to the GM vacancy in the Buffalo Bills front office.

"All indications are that they have their person and are waiting for the right time to make this announcement", said Wawrow.  He listed three reasons why a Sabres GM pick is needed soon.  1. Free Agency, 2. the Expansion Draft, and 3. the upcoming NHL Draft.
