Upstate Makes Dairy Acquisition

Capital investment firm Gioia Capital has purchased Home Power Systems and Commercial Power Systems for an undisclosed price.  Owner Jim Swetman will stay on as President.  Barclay Damon, LLP, Tronconi Segarra & Associates, LLP, and The Bonadio Group helped advise on the deal.  Financing was provided by Evans Bank.

According to Business First, Upstate Niagara Cooperative Inc. has agreed to purchase Syracuse-based Byrne Dairy.  No terms of the deal were made public.  Upstate Niagara Cooperative plans to retain most of Byrne Dairy’s 250 employees as well as its branded milk-based products.

Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute has received a legacy gift of more than $600,000 from a longtime supporter - the late Albertine Moran.  The gift will support the Institute’s new cryo-electron microscopy center.
