Following a recent jump in prices, the AAA notes the average cost for a gallon of unleaded gas held steady at $2.86 this past week.  Last year at this time, a gallon of unleaded cost $3 in Western New York.

A multimillion-dollar renovation of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at the corner of Main and Chippewa has been completed.  Business First reports the project included renovating all 146 suites with new furniture and flat-screen TVs.  The bedding has been changed up and the rooms include charging stations for electronic devices.  The project took about six months and was finished in early June.

Park School of Buffalo recently opened the $5 million Knopp-Hailpern Science Center.  According to Business First, it's the first new educational center on campus since Chapin Hall library opened in 1968.  The center was designed by CannonDesign and constructed by RP Oak Hill Building Co. Inc.

A new AP-NORC poll finds that nearly one-quarter of Americans say they never plan to retire.  Roughly another quarter in the survey say they'll work beyond their 65th birthday.  Asked how financially comfortable they feel about retirement, 29% of those over 50 say they feel extremely or very prepared, according to the poll.  About one-third of older adults feel unprepared.
