BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Police reponded to two different shootings that occurred about the same time overnight.

The first one was at 145 Allen Street, which is Gabriel's Gate, but reports from the scene say police activity was concentrated across the street at Frizzy's.

Saleem Merukeb, 37,  died after being shot outside the bar. Police say they responded around 1:30 a.m. Friday and the victim was taken to Buffalo General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Buffalo Police Lieutenant Jeff Rinaldo on Friday afternoon updated reporters and said a fight broke out between the alleged shooter and the victim. The shooter later returned with a gun, firing five-to-six shots.

"We are aware there were numerous people who may have witnessed the altercation as well as the possibility of some people may have shot video footage on their cell phones," Rinaldo said. "We are asking anybody that may have witnessed this and/or obtained video footage to please contact our homicide squad at 851-4466."

The shooting occurred along a section of the street lined with popular bars, restaurants and shops. Marc Frisicaro, owner of one of the local bars, told WIVB-TV he saw emergency crews working on the victim as he lay on the ground in front of a neighboring tavern.

Frisicaro says his bouncers and customers heard gunfire outside and locked themselves inside the business until police arrived on the scene.

No arrests have been reported. Rinaldo said the suspect and the victim knew one another.

The second was at Walden Avenue and Harmonia Street.  Police were searching the area in front of a convenience store. Police later said a 35-year-old man was struck multiple times and is currently in critical condition at ECMC.
