BUFFALO (WBEN) - The cars will be lining up early Wednesday at two local Wegmans locations and at the surface lot adjacent to Key Bank Center as the annual Turkeys for Tickets campaign plays out.  Car by car, the turkeys will be handed over in exchange for ticket vouchers for upcoming Buffalo Sabres games.

Every Thanksgiving, FeedMore WNY teams up with the Sabres, Wegmans and Entercom to help local families put food on the table for holiday.

For every 20-pound turkey, those who donated will receive a voucher for two tickets with a special promo code that fans can go online and choose when they want to go from a select number of games.

The event lasts from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, and people can drop off their turkeys at one of three locations:

-Wegmans location in West Seneca on Orchard Park Road
-Wegmans location in Amherst on Alberta Drive
-Surface lot at KeyBank Center, which is near Baltimore and Perry

"It's been incredible over the years - the first year we did this, there were lines all over Maple Road when we did it, and last year, we had I think more than 4,000 turkeys that were donated," said Chris Bandura, the vice president of media relations for the Sabres. "It's really been an incredible program that we've been so proud to work with."

Anne McKenna serves as the chief communications officer for FeedMore WNY, and she explained that there's always a need prior to and during the holiday season.

"Our goals is to make sure that everyone in Western New York has a good holiday season," she said. "We know, living in Buffalo, with the upcoming cold weather, sometimes families have to make a choice between paying their heating bill and putting food on the table. So, we want to make that choice a little bit easier for them, and that's really why we're here - why FeedMore WNY exists."
