TTPD Officer, Wife Charged in Off Duty Crash

Charges include insurance fraud and falsifying records

Amherst, NY (WBEN) A suspended Town of Tonawanda police officer and his wife have been charged in connection with a January crash.

36-year-old Howard Scholl, III of Town of Tonawanda has been arraigned before Amherst Town Court Justice Karen Buscaglia on one count of Falsifying Business Records in the Second Degree and one count of Insurance Fraud in the Fifth Degree.

Prosecutors say Scholl was driving a SUV on Englewood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda when it was involved in a crash with another vehicle. Scholl is accused of making a false report by saying his wife was the driver when the collision occurred. It is further alleged that Scholl notified his insurance provider that his wife was the driver of the vehicle. Scholl was off duty at the time.

Scholl is scheduled to return on Tuesday, July 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. He was released on his own recognizance.

Scholl’s wife, 33-year-old Aimee Scholl, was arraigned on one count of Falsifying Business Records in the Second Degree. She is also scheduled to return on July 10, and was released on her own recognizance.
