Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - Cheektowaga Police confirm the death of a 16 year old bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon on Union Road near the 33 expressway.

Sherilann Lorenz died early Wednesday morning at ECMC as a result of her injuries.  She worked as a lifeguard for the Town of Cheektowaga and was on her way to work when the accident occurred.  The investigation of the accident continues.  The driver of the vehicle is not facing charges in the tragedy.

Sherilann would have been a junior this fall at Cleveland Hill High School.  School administrators have set up counseling for students who would like to talk to someone.  Counseling is available immediately by calling the school or stopping in.

Cleveland Hill Schools issued the following statement:

With heavy hearts we mourn the passing of beloved Junior, Sherilann Lorenz.  Sherilann has been a proud Cleveland Hill Eagle her entire life.  Her influence as a student athlete, role model and friend has touched countless lives.  Though she is no longer with us, her inspiration will forever be a part of what makes Cleveland Hill such a special place.

A loss of this magnitude can be very challenging to handle.  To assist our students, faculty, staff and school community we will have walk-in counseling services available in Cleveland Hill High School daily beginning at 8:00 am.  We ask that you use the Mapleview Road entrance due to construction.  Please call us at 836-7200 ext.8440 for further information or to schedule an appointment.
