Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The Buffalo VA Hospital will resume surgical procedures a day after suspending them due to a possible contamination issue.

On Tuesday, the hospital issued an advisory that discolored white tray liners were discovered during a quality review.  These tray liners were inside sterilized packages.

As a precautionary measure they suspended surgeries while they investigated the source of the discoloring.

It turns out the discoloring is a result of natural elements in the water used in the sterilization process and poses no risk to patients.

Procedures that were canceled as a result are being rescheduled.

Below is the statement released by hospital officials:

"VA Western New York Healthcare System has resumed all surgical procedures. The discoloration was attributed to natural elements found in the water used in the sterilization process and poses no risk to our patients.  All previously canceled procedures are being rescheduled."
