Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Some strong to severe weather is possible across much of Western New York during the day Saturday, with a greater risk during the midday and afternoon and even a greater risk in the southern tier.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo warns of a, "marginal risk for severe thunderstorms today, with damaging wind gusts and hail the primary threats. Storms will blossom a bit earlier today than previous days, with activity likely around noontime through early evening".

Showers and thunderstorms over southern Ontario will cross the Niagara Frontier through 10 AM. While this activity could include some heavy rain, a greater chance for significant weather will be found during the midday and afternoon as a warm front will approach from Ohio. A broken line of showers and strong thunderstorms is then expected to cross the region after 11 AM. This line of storms will have the potential to become strong to severe, particularly across the Southern Tier. The highest severe weather threat will be for damaging thunderstorm winds and hail with the strongest storms found over the region between noon and 2 PM.
