Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Friday is the day the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino sports betting lounge opens, and there's a lot to know before you bet on your favorite team.

As always, you bet straight up on which team wins, but you could also try the spread. A spread is a wager placed on which participant will “cover the spread.” When you bet a favorite, you’re betting them to win by a margin that’s greater than the point spread. When you bet an underdog, you’re betting them to win outright or lose by a margin that’s less than the point spread.

Gavin Mercado with Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino says you can try a parlay, where to win, all bets must be correctly selected to ensure a payout for the bettor. Or you could try a variation called a round robin. "In round robin, you can select three out of five to win, and have a different combination on it," explains Mercado.

Mercado says you can also try a teaser bet. "It's an adjusted line where you move it in your favor, either taking the Bills to +6 or having them be the favorite, where they have to win the game," says Mercado, who notes the Bills are two point underdogs Sunday vs. Pittsburgh. He adds the more you change the spread, the lower the payout becomes.

You can bet on all different kinds of sports, but Mercado says you can't bet on New York State's Division I college teams like Syracuse and UB.

Brian Blessing of Sportsbook Radio says prop bets are very creative in Las Vegas, where he resides, and that will be part of the action here. "You can do a prop bet where you can bet on whether Jack Eichel will score a goal," says Blessing.

While minimum bets will be $1, Blessing says the money line on betting can look confusing. "If the Sabres were +150, you bet $100 dollars on the Sabres, and if they win, you'd win $250," explains Blessing. The goal line is similar. "If you wagered -1.5, a team would have to win by 2 goals, if it were +1.5, the team must lose by no more than one goal," notes Blessing.

If you do win at the sports book, Mercado says there are several ways to collect. "You can see us at the sports book, you can go to the casino cage, and there's a mail-in procedure. You fill out the information and mail it to us. We open it and verify the win, and we send you back a check," says Mercado.
