Snowmobile Riders Asked to Register

DMV, DEC, and NYS Parks Reminder

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Environmental Conservation, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation are reminding Western New Yorkers to register their snowmobiles for the winter.

Registrations must be renewed annually and can be done online at the DMV website, by mail, or in person. Approximately 106,867 snowmobiles were registered in New York last year.

First-time snowmobile registrees must complete a Snowmobile Registration Application, provide proof of identity and age (Must be at least 16 years old to register a snowmobile in New York), provide proof of ownership and bill of sale, and pay a $100 registration fee and sales tax.

The DMV is reminding the public that snowmobilers must carry registration and proof of insurance documents on their person at all times when snowmobiling.
