Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - The return of snow is a welcome sign for a popular holiday tradition at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park this weekend.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announcing that Santa Land will be back this Saturday and Sunday, (December 9 & 10) from 11am - 3pm.

Poloncarz was joined by Parks Comissioner Dan Rizzo and Santa Claus for the announcement, who offered a few "Ho, Ho Ho's".

The free family event offers sledding, hay rides to see Santa, arts & crafts and marshmallow roasting.

"The sled hills will be in peak condition" said Poloncarz.  It's the first time in years that there will be snow for the event.

The 10:00 hour each day is reserved for families with special need children who would like to see Santa in a quieter setting.

Santa Land serves as a collection point for the Toys for Tots campaign.  Visitors are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy to be distributed to local children.

Poloncarz used the announcement today to remind residents to be prepared for the approaching Winter storm.

  • Get a full tank of Gas
  • Have proper tires on your vehicle
  • make sure you have a snow brush in your car
  • Check your windshield wipers
  • Download the ReadyErie App for community preparedness

The County Executive said we're expecting 12-18 inches of snow by Friday morning.  "We should get through that without any issues. This is Winter in Buffalo".
