Reckless Driver Sentenced to Prison

Nearly struck police officer at crash site

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Cheektowaga man has been sentenced to prison after leading Cheektowaga Police on a chase that led to a close call for an officer.

39-year-old Scott Nowak will serve two to four years in prison for reckless endangerment in connection with the March 31st incident. Prosecutors say police tried to stop Nowak on Genesee Street near Sonwill Drive in Cheektowaga. Nowak, however tried to evade officer by driving at a high rate of speed and refused to stop.

A short time later, Cheektowaga Police officers were responding to a multi-vehicle collision on westbound Kensington Expressway near the Thruway interchange when Nowak sped through the crash site, hit a barrier and nearly injured a police officer.

Prosecutors say Nowak pleaded guilty to the highest count in the indictment against him on Friday, July 19, 2019.
