Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) -  wintry blast has made its way across the Buffalo and Western New York.  Colder air and gusty winds are creating the opportunity for lake effect snow across mainly the southern tier..

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the southtowns and southern tier through this evening.

The second wave of wintry weather arrives during the daytime Saturday when periods of accumulating snow are expected across the region with some times of potentially problematic lake effect snow across Western New York Sunday.

A much colder weather pattern is expected to overtake the region into next week.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST THIS
EVENING...
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 2 inches.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE...Wyoming, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM EST this evening.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
conditions could impact the evening commute.

INSTRUCTIONS: Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited
visibilities. Slow down and use caution while driving.

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE...Chautauqua county.
* WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
conditions could impact the evening commute.

INSTRUCTIONS: Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited
visibilities. Slow down and use caution while driving.
