BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Western New York have charged a man who they say impersonated a police officer in an attempt to get discounted coffee.

WIVB-TV first reported that 48 year old Mark Stetter of Buffalo flashed a fake badge and gun at a Starbucks on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo around 11 p.m. Friday. Police say the man claimed he was a detective and asked for a discount.

Authorities say the man then left Starbucks and tried to get into Spot Coffee after closing time by claiming he was a police officer.  The real cops were called when it was determined that he was carrying a BB gun.

Buffalo Police have charged Stetter with criminal trespassing, criminal impersonation of a police officer and menacing.

The Erie County Sheriff twitter page reacted, saying No good LE (law enforcement) officer would demand a discount for anything. Don't pretent to be a vet or cop, earn it.
