Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Multiple law enforcement agencies engaged in a chase of a car that ran from Amherst Police overnight.  The suspect car eventually wound up in a backyard on Bruce Street in the University District.

It was high drama overnight on the police scanners, and undoubtedly quadruply so for law enforcement involved in the chase.

The chase started in Amherst around 2:00 a.m. this morning and wound its way into the city of Buffalo via Winspear Avenue.

Police were chasing a suspect in a 1998 Buick four door for reasons unknown at this time.

The chase went from Winspear to Kenmore Avenue, down Englewood toward the city again, and around 2:35 a.m. the suspect had stopped for some reason and left the vehicle.

Not a minute later police were yelling over the radio the suspect was back in his vehicle and driving though a backyard fence.

The chase ended shortly afterward, with police requesting an ambulance for the suspect, saying he had lacerations to the face, and reports that he was in custody.

Amherst Police, Buffalo Police and New York State Police were all involved.  Amherst Police made the arrest but he was taken into custody by State Police.

No word on details of the police vehicle said to be involved in an accident, although it did occur at the end of the chase when things went into backyards.

WKBW reports the suspect's face was covered in blood.
