Pedestrian struck by off duty BPD detective

19 year old in critical condition at ECMC

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - An off duty Buffalo Police detective struck and critically injured a 19 year old pedestrian early Wednesday morning at Main and Custer in the University district.  Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo tells WBEN the incident appears to be "a tragic accident" and the investigation continues.

The female detective is cooperating with accident investigators who are looking for nearby video surveillance of the incident.  Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call police at 841 4444.  The detective was voluntarily undergoinh a blood draw as part of the investigation.

The victim is being treated at ECMC.
