Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Traffic was briefly halted along Bailey Avenue in South Buffalo Wednesday afternoon as crews demolished a portion of the old Bailey Avenue Bridge.

City contractors blasted the center pier of the old Bailey Avenue Bridge over Buffalo River during the noon hour.

Contractors say the majority of the pier was under water so minimal charges were used.

Bailey Avenue will be closed to traffic between McKinley Avenue & Elk Street during the actual  blast which officials say should only last about a minute.

A new bridge was recently opened.
