Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - An ambitious, $5 million dollar Outer Harbor development project is waiting on the green light from the Buffalo Common Council and Mayor Byron Brown.

The project, which has been in development for over a year, will create a bike-friendly recreation area in nearly twelve acre vacant spot near the Bell Slip.

The project will also help to remove invasive species, a relatively new initiative we're seeing in various project proposals across Western New York.

Funding will come from the Buffalo Billion.

Organizers are hoping to start construction by Memorial Day.  It will take about year to complete.
