ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WBEN) - One person was injured after a truck fire led to a larger fire at a building on North Benzing Road in Orchard Park.

A witness said that the fire started around 1 p.m. Thursday after an explosion that sounded like a dump truck gate slamming at the Buffalo and Orchard Park Topsoil Inc business. Several other exploding sounds followed at the topsoil company, which fire officials said was because of gas tanks, tires, and other materials inside the building.

Windom Police Chief Jay Knavel said someone was working on a white pickup truck outside the building, which led to the fire spreading to the business itself.

"They're investigating what the initial cause was," Knavel said. "We definitely have some diesel fuel (involved). Whatever the burning materials were inside there caused that much smoke. The wind definitely helped expedite the fire."

Multiple agencies were at the fire site including Orchard Park, Hamburg, and West Seneca, though Knavel said is normal for a one-alarm fire.

No other damage was reported to nearby buildings. Smoke from the fire reached parts of Route 219.
