One Dead, Another In Custody After Fatal Fire in Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - One woman is dead and police had another in custody breifly made an arrest after a early morning fire in the Grider/Kensington neighborhood near Erie County Medical Center. 

The arrest was  announced near 5 this morning, about 90 minutes after crews were first called to the scene at 57 Manhattan.

Outside the home, a woman was openly talking about her daughter being dead inside the fire, but fire and police officials had no official confirmation of the victim or suspect's identity.

Buffalo Fire Chief Peter Kertzie tells WBEN's Dave Debo that when they arrived, several people had escaped the fire but it was apparent that the victim could not be immediately rescued.

 Five adults and one child are being assisted by the Red Cross.
