BUFFALO (WBEN) - Five children and their mother are safe after New York State Police caught their kidnapper driving in a white minivan in Cheektowaga on Sunday.

A fugitive from Ohio, 27-year-old William Angel, is now in the custody of New York State Police following a traffic stop on the Thruway near the Cleveland Drive exit.

Police say they saw the minivan that matched the description of a white Chrysler with Ohio plates, and a man who was accused of kidnappings the children and their mother from the Cleveland area. Police pulled the van over for a traffic stop, and then they found the children, ranging in age from six months to seven years, along with the mother.

Angel was then taken into custody and is awaiting extradition to Ohio, as he was wanted by the Cleveland Police Department on charges of kidnapping, felony assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The mother was treated for minor injuries, but the family is now safe.

We'll have more on this story as details emerge.
