Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The election to be held June 23 in Western New York will be one for the history books.  Simultaneously, candidates will compete in a special election to fill the vacant NY27 Congressional seat and in a Republican primary for the NY27 seat as well.

Republican New York State Senator Chris Jacobs is facing-off against Democrat Nathan McMurray in the special election that will fill the NY27 seat left vacant after the resignation in disgrace by Congressman Chris Collins.  The winner of the special election will fill the seat for the remaining term which expires at the end of this year.  The special election was to be held in April but was postponed due to COVID-19.

Jacobs is also among the field of Republicans vying in the GOP primary election which also features Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw and Beth Parlato.

All four of the candidates appeared on WBEN's Hardline program Sunday with Joe Beamer and Brenda Alesii and discussed COVID-19, police reform, protests and more.
