BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Canalside's "pit" located at the site of the north aud block will take its next steps on Tuesday with a public meeting, giving you a chance to share what you'd like to see done at that site with some ideas early from members of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation.

"A lot of the historic streets and right of ways, we're hoping to incorporate in the next phase, including the north aud block," ECHDC President Steve Ranalli told WBEN. "There's a basis for direction we're heading in but we certainly want to hear everyone's ideas before we tighten it down."

Initial ideas proposed include underground parking with development on top. What that development will be is still up for debate.

Congressman Brian Higgins said the area has been languishing for a while but is happy to see that there is progress.

"There was community frustration with (the languishing area) but there is resources and money and plenty of creative ideas to fill that in and make it a pedestrian area with residential-commercial mixed uses," Higgins said. "Canalside is filling up. We like the progress we're seeing there and want to ensure that this project realizes its full potential."

Tuesday's public meeting will specifically highlight the design for street and parking facilities at the northern section of the former Memorial Auditorium. Last August, Governor Cuomo announced $10 million in state funds for development of the parcel, which will reintroduce portions of the block's street grid. TY Lin International, an engineering firm, was selected by ECHDC to develop the North Aud Block.

The open house will be held at the Pavilion at Canalside from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
