Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The newest member of the Buffalo School Board will be sworn in tonight. She calls this an honor.

"I have been thinking about what an honor it is to serve in this capacity," says Dr. Catherine Flanagan-Priore. "I know there was a large number of applicants that went through the interview process. In having had the opportunity to read about them, many of them were well qualified. I'm honored I was chosen over all those other people."

Flanagan-Priore wants the residents of the Park district to be involved. "I want to hear from them, I want to know what they want from their school community, I want to be able to represent their interests, and I want to have a positive impact on the lives of children in this community," says Flanagan-Priore.

She says she's not coming in with a political agenda. "I threw my name into the ring to give back to the community, not to further my aspirations or notions I have," says Flanagan-Priore. "It is about the children, not about me. Everything I will do will be the end goal. The end goal is serving the children in this community."

Flanagan-Priore says she plans to work collaboratively with her fellow board members, saying if not, the board will go nowhere.

At her first meeting, she plans to ease into things and get a sense of how the board meetings are run and what will be coming before the board.
