Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized a shipment which contained just over 7.5 pounds of marijuana at the Peace Bridge Wednesday.

CBP officers working at the Peace Bridge commercial warehouse targeted a shipment manifested as “stuffed animals.” Their initial inspection of the shipment revealed cans labeled as containing meat products. When opened, the cans contained more than 7.5 pounds of marijuana.

“During the holiday season, CBP officers remain vigilant and work hard to keep our communities safe,” said Acting Port Director Cary Frieling. “Our officers’ experience, combined with the use of available tools, continues to keep dangerous drugs from entering our country.”

The CBP notes that anti-terrorism is their primary mission. However, the inspection process at ports of entry, like the Peace Bridge, results in what they says are "impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories."
