Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The tallest building in Buffalo keeps filling space inside under the eye of developer Douglas Jemal.

Buffalo Business First reports that M&T Bank has selected One Seneca Tower as the location of a technology hub that will house 1,000 workers.

The jobs are said to include software engineers, web developers and other jobs in IT and digital services. It will be about five years before the number of jobs created reaches 1,000, but the first 250 are expected to be filled in 2019.

"M&T wanted to stay in the downtown corridor," said Jim Fink of Business First, who has been reporting on the issue. "There were very few options if you really think about it, so the Seneca Tower made all the sense."

Though the 38-story tower now sits vacant, not many other places in the area could take on the scale of M&T Bank's planned expansion.

"One thousand workers... that's a huge milestone," Fink said. "Let me put it in to perspective. Seneca gaming combined has about 4,000 workers, so it's equivalent to a quarter of Seneca Gaming all coming in to downtown Buffalo."

An official announcement on the agreement is expected on Thursday morning.
