Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It was a busy weekend for the Erie County Water Authority as more than a dozen water main breaks had crews working to make rapairs at one break before moving on to another.

Water Authority crews repaired a 24-inch transmission main on Markus Drive in Cheektowaga as water pressure and service delivery was brought back to normal in the affected areas.

Water Authority crews and outside contractors had completed eight main breaks Sunday and were in the process of responding to nine additional main breaks throughout its service district. Most repairs hould be made by Monday morning.

The authority says "the high incident rate of main breaks over this weekend is largely due to the fluctuating freezing and thawing cycles that Western New York is experiencing over the past several days. ECWA is communicating with customers in the affected areas via its dispatch center as well as its web site, social media platforms and SMS alert system".

Though the Water Authority said that all of the weekend's breaks had been repaired by early Monday, an additional six leaks happened that morning.
