BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Fans ahead of the Buffalo Bills’ Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots came fully equipped with everything you’d expect a Bills fan to bring: Bills gear, footballs, food, and, not surprisingly, alcohol.

We chatted with some groups about the tailgating experience during a stop at the lot on the corner of Southwestern Boulevard and Abbott Road.

One Bills fan told us that the difference between a Monday night game rather than a Sunday afternoon game is that they’re given more time to tailgate ahead of the kickoff.

“We got some more time on the books to get some drinks in,” he said.

Even though temperatures hovered around the 40’s all afternoon, the fans came prepared.

“We’ve got a nice propane fire pit and some beers behind us,” another fan said. “I would say (we’re the most comfortable). Some people have been stopping by. That’s why you stopped over here.”

He’s right.

Some fans came in from as far as Florida and Michigan just to watch the Monday night game. One fan told us that Monday’s game was extra special because of Thurman Thomas’ jersey retirement ceremony.

Others were taking in their first Bills experience. One woman, who said she’s 31 years old got tickets through her significant other and said she’s trying to take in the entire experience and had fun.

“I’ve just never had the opportunity, I guess,” she said. “It’s October…why not?”

She said the fire was her favorite part.

As for the final result of Monday’s game, most fans were optimistic that the Bills can get the upset victory.
