LANCASTER, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro visited Lancaster on Tuesday to promote his plan to reduce property taxes by 30 percent over the next five years.

"That could mean as much as a $1,000 savings over five years to taxpayers here in Erie County," Molinaro said. "The plan focuses on rightsizing state government and the efficient delivery of services and within that, significant mandate relief."

Molinaro said his plan would add more money in the pocket of retirees. His "Empire State Freedom Plan" would allow retirees to exclude $40,000 instead of the first $20,000 in private pensions for single senior citizen retirees and $80,000 for married couples.

He plans to announce at the end of the week how he intends to pay for it.

Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner released the following statement

“Instead of delivering much-needed relief for the hardworking residents of Erie County, Marc Molinaro backed the federal government’s egregious scam to hike taxes on New York’s middle class. Molinaro now claims he wants to cut taxes but New Yorkers know better: his plan is full of the same tired tricks to protect the wealthy one percent at the expense of working families. Molinaro is all talk and no action. He’d rather cut taxes for the well-off and corporations than deliver any meaningful relief to the people of this state.”
