Erie County, N.Y. (WBEN) - A North Tonawanda man has been identified as the swimmer whose body was recovered in the Niagara River Wednesday.

37 year old Nathan Farkas of North Tonawanda went missing Tuesday afternoon while swimming in the East branch of the Niagara River near the South Grand Island Bridges. 

He was the subject of a two day search by the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

Farkas and another man entered the water from a Grand Island dock and attempted to swim to a bridge pylon when Farkas disappeared. 

The Sheriff's office dispatched it's Marine Unit, Air-1 helicopter and Underwater Recovery Team.
