BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Mercy Flight and the American Red Cross announced on Thursday that Mercy Flight will take over its annual BASH event operations.

The BASH will be held this year at Buffalo Riverworks on June 7. For years, the BASH was used to help raise funds for the American Red Cross and it's expected to generate about $100,000 in funds for non-profit Mercy Flight. The event in June will feature food and drinks from local restaurants plus live music from Nerds Gone Wild, VIP packages, a Mercy Flight helicopter flyover, and a fireworks display.

Last year, more than 3,000 people attended the BASH.

"This is kind of special for Mercy Flight," Doug Baker, President of Mercy Flight said. "Red Cross has done a fantastic job with it for so many years and for them to pass the baton to us is special. We're excited because it gives us the exposure to the community that we need so badly. It seems in 38 years we've been begging the community to keep us alive and for 38 years they've done so."

The Red Cross will host the inaugural Western New York Real Heroes Breakfast at Park Country Club in Williamsville on May 16.

Tickets go on sale for the BASH next month.
