Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Former Buffalo Bill Marshawn Lynch is causing a commotion this weekend after he sat for the National Anthem before the Raiders pre-season game Saturday.

Marshawn Lynch sat on an orange cooler eating a banana during the National Anthem before Saturday's pre-season game between the Oakland Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals.

A picture made the rounds Saturday, and someone caught wind of it before the post-game press conference.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said he didn't know Lynch would sit during the anthem, and asked him about it after the game.

"He said this is something I've done for eleven years. It's not a form of anything, other than me being myself," Del Rio reported during the press-conference.

Del Rio said he told Lynch he believes people should stand, but that it's a non-issue for him.

However, that didn't stop the story from growing. People on Twitter went with it, more media picked it up, and ESPN talked about it. One ESPN analyst wondered why Colin Kaepernick was getting flack for taking a knee, when Lynch had been sitting a lot longer.

Others are pointing to Lynch's support of Kaepernick on TBS's Conan last September, where he said he thought  Kaepernick was just bringing attention to an important issue.

"If you're really not racist, then you won't see what he's doing as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem that we have," Lynch told Conan O'Brien.

Around here, people know Lynch and many probably would agree that it's just Lynch being Lynch, but on the internet and in the media, the story seems to have some legs.

Some people have been searching games and have posted images of Lynch standing during the National Anthem.

For his part, Lynch has yet to say anything about it publicly. If his Twitter account and prior media appearances are any indication, I suspect he'd rather talk about viewing the eclipse or would want to wish everyone a happy Labor Day before he talks about this.

Marshawn Lynch was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
