BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Lyft is offering $10 off any two rides for users on either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day in Buffalo.

Thousands of people are expected to converge in Downtown Buffalo for the annual New Year's Eve celebration. Buffalo was one of the cities in the state to receive the discount for the New Year's Eve celebrations. Users can use the promotional code "BUFFALONYE19" to receive the discount.

"Ridesharing is here and it's here to stay," State Senator Tim Kennedy said Monday at Big Ditch Brewing Company in Buffalo. "It's flourishing and we want people to take advantage of ridesharing opportunities, especially amid the holiday season."

Ridehailing companies like Lyft and Uber came to New York State in 2017. Since then, there has been a decrease in the number of DWI arrests in Erie County. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said Monday that the number of felony DWI cases has lowered from 471 in 2017 to 351 this year.

"It went down 120 cases in just two years and the felony DWIs are the ones that really matter because the felony DWIs are the one that involve repeat offenders," Flynn said. "It's the repeat offender who, a lot of times we see, causes the accidents and horrific injuries that occur."
