BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Senator Tim Kennedy announced 110,000 dollars for Martin Luther King Jr Park. It will be focused on rehabilitating the cottage garden within the park on Buffalo's east side.

Stephanie Crockatt, Executive Director of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, says this comes at a much needed time.

"The plants are very thirsty, with this grant we will be able to to install new irrigation, benches and planting components."

Council Member Ulysees Wingo Sr. is excited for what it could mean to the area but he does say that people have to start respecting the park more.

He says they have had issues in the past with cars driving on the grass and pollution from a lot of garbage being left behind.

"They come over here and trash the park and then they leave just because it is on the East Side. That isn't fair to the enviroment, residents and the city of Buffalo."

Councilmember Wingo says respect will allow everyone to enjoy what the park has to offer.
