BUFFALO (WBEN) - In another display of community, local company Lakeward Spirits is donating 330 gallons of hand sanitizer to the Buffalo Police and Fire Departments.

"As most of you know, this is an item that is in very short supply and very high demand, along with a lot of our PPE," said Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo. "This is a very important donation for us, and we're going to add it to our current inventory."

Lakewood Spirits President Steve Bystran thanked first responders for their service during this trying time.

"They're touching people, and they're touching us to help and protect us every day, and they need to protect themselves and their families," he said. "We happen to be able to make this stuff - it's a little bit different than what we normally make - vodka, gin, rum, fun stuff. Unfortunately, we have this problem, and we felt powerless, but we thought we could help in some way, and we wanted to make sure that we got it into the right people's hands."

The company is making the sanitizer in five-gallon buckets, and for this week, they're making it for hospitals, nursing homes, first responders and other medical practices. However, Bystran says the product will be available in 7-10 days to the general public.
