Liberty Cab: No Cars Waiting for Customers by the Ball Drop

Mayor: "I think it's going to be more hurtful for Liberty Cab"

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Liberty Cab says that taxi drivers in Buffalo are planning to move forward with their threat of boycotting New Year's Eve in the City of Buffalo over what they see as unfair treatment compared to ridesharing services Uber and Lyft.

The boycott idea was raised in front of the city council this month with the hope of de-regulating cabs, but Liberty Cab President Bill Yuhnke said that no meeting with the City has been scheduled until mid-January.

"If they use the Liberty cab app, they're going to get their vehicle," Yuhnke said about New Year's Eve, but also added that cars will not be waiting to service those looking to hail a ride the old-fashioned way.

The City sees the move not as an inconvenience, but a mistake.

"I think it's going to be more hurtful for Liberty Cab," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. "There's going to be ample transportation options in the City including many other cab companies operating that day. Uber and Lyft are going to be working that day, and I don't think that the traveling public is going to be hurt. I think it's going to be more hurtful to Liberty."
