(WBEN)  Jack Nicklaus, iconic American sports figure and world-renowned golf landscape designer, will visit Buffalo this Monday, September 17th, to help advance Kevin Gaughan's Buffalo parks improvement and education project.

Mr. Nicklaus and Mr. Gaughan will spend the day visiting proposed sites for Nicklaus' design work, meet with community leaders to discuss project purposes, and visit with inner-city children who will benefit from the planned education center. They will be accompanied by Lucy Lawliss, Chair of the National Association for Olmsted Parks, Washington, DC.

"We're honored to have Jack in Buffalo," Gaughan said, "and after four years of effort by so many people who believe in our mission, we're thrilled that this day has arrived."

Gaughan conceived his plan in 2014, and enlisted Nicklaus' gracious agreement to participate in the program in 2016. Gaughan's plan includes: a) Nicklaus re-designs the golf course located in Frederick Law Olmsted's Delaware Park, utilizing less space and permitting restoration of a portion of Olmsted's original meadow; b) Nicklaus designs a second Signature course on land adjacent to South Park and owned by Gaughan's charitable company, permitting removal of the South Park golf course and full restoration of Olmsted's renowned Arboretum; and c) construction of an Education Center to provide vocational training to Buffalo's inner-city youth.
