Wellsville, NY (WBEN) The village of Wellsville has been hit with devastating economic news that Dresser-Rand's plant will close in 2020, putting 250 people out of work.

"It's not the end of the world," says mayor Randy Shaler. "The first thing on my mind is that 250 people will be looking for a job in the next 18 to 24 months, Dresser-Rand is a large employer and it has an impact. People shop and have dinner. They use our facilities so They have a huge financial impact."

Shaler says Wellsville has a world class work force, but admits it will take several businesses to come in and fill those vacancies. "The IDA are looking for businesses to come. We'll certainly move it to the forefront and make this a priority to bring potential employers here," says Shaler. "Most businesses won't come in with 250 jobs, and it will have to multiple employers coming in." He says that's being done in Wellsville's Main Street area.
