BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - With thousands of people expected to visit Buffalo's Outer Harbor this weekend, it's no surprise that there will be frustration with having to wait in traffic.

Traffic along the Outer Harbor on Fuhrmann Boulevard is one-way in and one-way out. Add that to the traffic congestion which will be caused by the Skyway's construction and it will make it an even more difficult commute for drivers this weekend.

"While we are now around the 78th largest city in the nation, many of our special events are in the top five or top ten in the nation," Mayor Byron Brown said. "That creates traffic. That's a good problem to have."

Brown acknowledged it will stress the Buffalo Police Department, though he said the department is well-trained and will handle it to the best of their ability.

"It can be a frustration," Brown added. "That is a frustration that larger cities that have larger events experience on a regular basis. It kind of is the price of progress."

The Italian Festival starts on Thursday at 11 a.m.
