BUFFALO (WBEN) - It was quite the scene in an around Niagara Square on Thursday afternoon, as dozens of local healthcare workers drove around and honked their horns as a rallying cry for more protection.

"The reason that we're here today is because healthcare workers do not have the equipment they need, the protective equipment they need, to safely take care of the patients with COVID-19," said Ann Comverso, a registered nurse and organizer for CWA 1168. "They need the equipment to be safe, and he has not done that - we want the President to fully enact the Defense Protection Act."

In an effort to make sure everyone maintained a health social distance, much of the rally was done virtually on Facebook, as elected leaders such as Brian Higgins and Chuck Schumer offered their support to the healthcare workers.

"There must be a concerted effort to domestically produce and source items like N95 masks, protective gowns, face shields and gloves," said Higgins. "It is imperative that our healthcare workers and the patients they serve - there is not time to waste - this is a matter of life and death."

"Keep up the good work," began Schumer. "We are on your side; you are our fighters; you are our warriors; you are our heroes - we love you, and we're going to stick by you."
