HAMBURG, N.Y. (WBEN) - Normally the final day of classes for a high school senior involves reminiscing about one's grade school career and the friendships developed. Then there's the optimism about one last summer together before friends go their separate ways in college or career life.

But on Monday, the seniors at Frontier High School didn't get the typical experience. Instead, they banded together to remember their fallen classmate Eddie Travis.

Travis, 18, died on Saturday morning in a car crash on Southwestern Boulevard in West Seneca. West Seneca Police said he crossed into westbound traffic and was ejected from his car after he hit another vehicle. Travis died at the scene. His girlfriend, 18-year-old Elizabeth Rybarczyk, was last listed in stable condition at ECMC.

The students, faculty, and staff at Frontier High School at 7 a.m. Monday gathered near the steps of the school to remember their fallen classmate in a memorial for the school community only. During the memorial, hundreds of balloons were released to pay tribute to the fallen classmate, who would have graduated on Friday in a ceremony at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.

Travis attended the school's prom the night before and went to an after party. He was on his way to volunteer when the accident happened.

He will be laid to rest on Wednesday at St. Teresa's Parish.
