Body of 'wanted' Fort Erie man found in Niagara River

A 29-year-old woman and young child were rescued from river

FORT ERIE (WBEN) - A bizarre case just across the border that began Friday night took a twist Saturday as police located a body near Jarvis Street in Fort Erie.

The body has been positively identified as 28 year old Fort Erie resident Joshawa Raymond Douglas Brooks who was wanted on attempted murder charges after a 29-year old woman and a child were rescured from the Niagara River Friday night.

According to Niagara Regional Police Media Relations Officer Phil Gavin, at about 6:30 pm Friday, law enforcement was called to the Niagara River in Fort Erie due to a report of three people in the water. A bystander observed the incident and was able to rescue a 29-year-old woman and a young child.

From there, the woman was transported to the hospital and later died. The child remains hospitalized in stable condition.
